The department ITP is responsible for software tools for the process design and simulation workflow in Linde Engineering. The work scope comprises implementation of in-house programs for the prediction of thermophysical properties and for stationary and dynamic simulation and optimization of single equipment and entire processes. Concepts for process control, data analytics and predictive maintenance are designed and implemented. At Linde Engineering, one of the core technical competencies include the designing and manufacturing of plate-fin type heat exchangers. With extensive process and modeling knowledge of these exchangers inhouse first principle modeling techniques for this equipment have been developed and extensively used. However, the application of first principle models is limited in cases ( online monitoring) where computing time is restricted. Hence, a hybrid modeling approach combining first principles modeling equations with data-based model components – ANN, Kriging etc. is the proposed direction for this thesis.
